Empowering Children with Hearing Loss through Art & Stories

Little Listeners Publishing makes hearing loss topics fun & playful! By changing the way hearing loss and hearing devices are portrayed in children's literature, we aim to foster a sense of pride, excitement, and wonderment in young readers. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that children with hearing losses have the resources that encourage self-love and love for their hearing devices, leading to more consistent use and better hearing outcomes.

  • Fun, Unique Books For Kids with Hearing Loss
  • Created by a Pediatric Audiologist
The Traveling Library: Dr. Stacey Armas has curated a comprehensive collection of over 100 books focused on hearing loss and hearing devices. The Traveling Library brings these books to deaf and hard of hearing programs or loans them to pediatric audiology clinics. School resources are often limited, and it's unlikely they have a selection of books about kids with hearing loss. By increasing access to these books, we aim to make children feel represented and understood. The collection includes Dr. Armas's own titles, "My Hearing, My Way," and "Alma's Hearing Journey."

Welcome to Little Listeners Publishing

Welcome to Little Listeners Publishing, an initiative by Dr. Stacey Armas, a Pediatric Audiologist. Dr. Armas discovered a commend trend, many children with hearing loss were dissatisfied with the visibility and appearance of their hearing devices, negatively affecting their self-esteem. As a result, many children choose not to wear their hearing aids consistently, leading to suboptimal hearing and a higher risk for delays in speech, academics, and social-emotional development. Recognizing the urgent need for representation and positive reinforcement for this group of children, Dr. Armas combined her expertise as an audiologist with her creative spirit to create Little Listeners Publishing.

Mission and Vision: At Little Listeners Publishing, our mission is to transform the perception of hearing loss and hearing devices in children’s literature and beyond. We believe in celebrating kids with hearing loss and portraying hearing devices as vibrant, fun, and stylish accessories that reflect the unique personalities of the children who wear them. Unlike traditional approaches in audiology, which often aim to make hearing devices less noticeable by matching them with skin or hair tones, we embrace the opposite philosophy. We encourage children to proudly showcase their hearing devices as extensions of their individuality and style.

Join us at Little Listeners Publishing as we create a world where hearing devices are celebrated, not hidden, and where the power of play and self-expression transforms children’s experiences. Together, we can inspire a new generation of children to embrace their hearing devices with confidence and joy.
